The Role The Behavioral Health Consultant will assist in the identification of families that have been reported to CPS with substance use disorders and, specifically, will assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of Plans of Safe Care for infants born and identified as affected by prenatal substance abuse, withdrawal symptoms or Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.
Through this effort we seek to promote early identification, referral, and implementation of services to support substance exposed infants and their families.
Behavioral health Consultant will be co-located at the Westchester County Department of Social Services and will work under the supervision of the Samaritan Daytop Village and in close collaboration with district office staff.
What You Will Do:
Accompany CPS and PS caseworkers in the community to visit with identified families and/or provide direct consultation to caseworkers regarding families who might benefit from substance abuse services.
Assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of the plan of safe care for any infant born and identified as being affected by substance abuse, or withdrawal symptoms, or Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.
Administer standardized screening tools to assess prenatal and post -partum substance use and treatment needs, provide clinical assessments and documentation to support the CPS process.
Administer standardized screening tools for depression and anxiety in pregnancy and the post-partum period to further assess for mental health treatment needs.
Provide case management for up to 60 days to provide ongoing family support and education.
Use knowledge of resources within Westchester County to provide referrals for identified children and/or adults who may need ongoing services.
Conduct outreach and disseminate information to Westchester County medical providers regarding substance abuse issues and plans of safe care.
Provide education and training to DSS staff on a variety of topics including but not limited to substance exposed infants.
Contribute to other special projects as needed.
Who You Will Be:
An LCSW Possess minimum of One-Three (1-3) years of demonstrated experience as a Clinical Social Worker, preferably working with clients with Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and/or Serious Mental Illness (SMI) Available to work a flexible schedule in response to participant and staff needs.
